Google Officially Released Android 16 on June 10, 2025 — Certification Deadlines Have Changed!

Google officially released Android 16 on June 10, 2025. With this new version, the certification timelines for Android will also be adjusted.

Below is the latest overview of Android version expiration timelines for Android 16, compiled by DeepLight Standards.

How to Read This Chart

Column 1: OS version (API level)
Indicates the Android version.

Column 2: AOSP release
Indicates the official release date of the Android version.

Column 3: Google GMS Certification — MADA Certification Deadlines

Note: There are two types of certification deadlines here — New DEVICE and New s/w BUILD.

New DEVICE: This refers to the first-time certification of a new product.
For example, if Product A applies for MADA certification for the first time in the EU region, it is considered a New DEVICE. The deadline in this case would be February 28, 2023.

New s/w BUILD: If the same product has already passed certification in one region (e.g., EU) before the deadline and then applies for certification in another region (e.g., Russia), it is classified as New s/w BUILD. In this case, the certification deadline would change to October 4, 2023.

The New s/w BUILD deadline is tied to the release of a newer Android version.
For instance, with Android 12 EDLA certification, the New DEVICE deadline was January 31, 2024, while the New s/w BUILD deadline was September 3, 2024, which coincides with the release of Android 15.

Column 4: Google GMS Certification — EDLA Certification Deadlines
Generally, for the same Android version, EDLA certification deadlines extend about one year later than the MADA deadlines.

Key Points to Note

For Android 15, the MADA certification deadline is November 3, 2025, which is unusually short.

By comparison, Android 14, released in October 2023, had its MADA certification end by February 2025.

This means that if you are planning to undergo Android 15 GMS certification, you must act quickly to avoid missing the short window.
